Industry Specific Compliance

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on July 21, 2026, has decided to keep in abeyance the detailed front-of-pack declaration requirements introduced under the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) First Amendment Regulations, 2025, after receiving representations regarding implementation challenges, particularly for smaller packs with a Principal Display Panel (PDP) area of less than 100 cm².

Until the amendment to the notification is finalized, Food Business Operators (FBOs) may adopt a simplified front-of-pack declaration indicating the percentage of Coffee and Chicory (e.g., COFFEE...%, CHICORY...%). This requirement applies to both coffee–chicory mixtures and instant coffee–chicory blends. The minimum font size prescribed is 1 mm, which increases to 2 mm for packs with a PDP area exceeding 100 cm².

The revised directions will come into force on July 01, 2027, effectively providing the industry with an additional year to comply with the updated labelling requirements.
